Basis
The religion dictates the Ori as all-knowing and all-powerful gods who created all life and is disseminated by the compliant Priors. Followers must devote themselves to the Ori and follow the "Path of Origin". Origin states that those who follow will eventually join the Ori as ascended beings. The religion uses parables from the Book of Origin to dictate morality, or the Ori's version of morality. Anyone who opposes the religion are killed for they are considered "evil", or more likely they are useless to the Ori. Religion however was revealed to be essentially a scam, with the Ori sapping energy from the followers and not allowing their followers to ascend, but instead die a meaningless death. Ceremonies
One of the central ceremonies among Origin is Prostration. Worshippers will gather in a public place and worship the Ori. A Prior or Administrator will lead the village in prostration for many hours. This is possibly the ceremony which allows the Ori to drain energy from their followers. Another ceremony is public burning of those who have become "overtaken" with evil, these people are placed on the Ara and oil is set alight and allowed to burn the victim. Origin has symbolic ties with fire. Fire, according to the Book of Origin is a source of warmth and light and has redeeming effects. In the Milky Way, particularly on Earth, fire is associated with demonic images, which is believed to have been from interference from the Ancients as a form of protection against the Ori. History
The Ori created Origin and as such were worshiped by their followers, they also discovered that they gained more power from their followers. The Doci and the Priors were created as a means to spread Origin to the human populations. Despite saying that their followers would ascend, the Ori did not allow them to as that would mean that they would have to share their power.
When they discovered the Milky Way and that there were humans there, they sent Priors to spread Origin so as to gain more power and be able to defeat the ascended Ancients. A de-ascended Ancient Orlin returned to mortal form and told Stargate Command that the followers were not ascended and died a meaningless death. When the populations of the Milky Way showed resistance to Origin, large armies and ships were made to destroy any ressitance. Origin, however fell following the destruction of the ascended Ori and the use of the Ark of Truth on their followers.
