Za'tarc
From Stargate Wiki
- "The victim of Goa'uld mind-control technology."
- — Anise
A Za'tarc is a victim of Goa'uld mind-control technology brainwashed into performing a mission against their will, usually assassinations.
Overview
Za'tarc's have a mission programmed into their subconscious and covered with a false memory, making the victim unaware that their minds have been tampered with. The mission is triggered by either an audio or a visual signal and when prevented from achieving their mission the Za'tarc will turn violent and self-destructive. The programming only requires moments of access to the victims mind for it to be embedded. The Tok'ra Anise presented a theory to the Tok'ra High Council about the existence of such technology however there was no proof so it was dismissed, despite the fact that three separate incidents had occurred for healthy Tok'ra operatives who suddenly suffered from sudden and extreme behavior episodes, ending in suicide. She then developed a Za'tarc detector to uncover the programming in victims minds and remove it. (SG1: "Divide and Conquer")
