The George Hammond defending Icarus Base

The Hammond was active in 2009 and renamed from the Phoenix when Samantha Carter took command. Some weeks later Dr. Nicholas Rush had Eli Wallace beamed aboard the Hammond to get him to join the Icarus project, the ship also took Eli, Senator Alan Armstrong and his daughter Chloe Armstrong to P4X-351. While there the planet was attacked by the Lucian Alliance and the Hammond helped defend the planet, beaming up any personnel they could, when they detected a dangerous build up of energy within the planet, they escaped into hyperspace and back to Earth. (ATL: "Enemy at the Gate", SGU: "Air, Part 1")

Months later, the Hammond was sent to a planet to stop a Lucian Alliance attempt to dial Destiny. The crew discovered the Alliance was using jamming technology to stop them from beaming into their complex so the ship launched F-302s to help in the attack. The Alliance dialed out and the planet's core started to build up energy, Colonel Carter had no choice but to jump into hyperspace and leave two F-302's behind. (SGU: "Incursion, Part 1")

Alternate timelines.gifAlternate Timelines

  • In an alternate timeline, the George Hammond was called the Phoenix and was commanded by Col. Samantha Carter after Richard Woolsey took command of Atlantis. The Phoenix was not completed and had to be finished in the Pegasus galaxy by Carter and McKay. Perhaps due to the hastened nature of the completion of the ship, the Asgard core was located in the bridge towards the back of the room where the map would be located, instead of being elsewhere in the ship. The ship was used to perform guerrilla-style hit and run attacks on Michael's hive ships and subsequently lost in an ambush. (ATL: "The Last Man")
