History
If a wormhole travels too close to a star during a solar flare, the wormhole will run back into itself causing the travelers to travel through time. The Aschen had the means to convert gas giants into stars in order to increase farming periods. SG-1 and the Tok'ra formulated a plan to cause Vorash's star to go supernova and destroy pophis' fleet which they would draw to them. The plan was mostly successful, despite the fact that SG-1's Ha'tak's and Apophis' Flagship were sent 4 million Light years from the Milky Way. Every 15,000 years or so, the Lantean star produces a large Coronal mass ejection which fires across the Lantean system. (SG1: "1969", "2010", "2001", "Exodus", ATL: "Echoes")
The Odyssey was tricked into coming into range of a neutron star which affected its sensors and shielding. The Lucian Alliance took advantage of this by attacking the ship and taking it over. Ba'al used a Solar Observation outpost to locate solar flares to be used to travel through time. The Ancient vessel Destiny and the Stargate Seed ships recharge their power reserves by diving into the corona of a star and siphoning some form of energy away. (SG1: "Company of Thieves", Stargate: Continuum, SGU: "Light")
