- "The Ori are not posing. We do not doubt their power, just their word and intention. Their power is as real as the strength of belief in all followers."
- — Fannis
The Ori were a race of ascended beings, originally part of a society of humanoids living with the Alterans, who used subjugation of humans as a means of gaining power.

Overview
Physiology
The Ori were once a humanoid species that evolved alongside the Alterans. They too eventually evolved and ascended to a higher plane of existence. As ascended beings the Ori had immense power and were able to physically change lower beings such as humans into Priors. The Ori may have also developed advanced mental abilities such as telepathy as they evolved. (Stargate: The Ark of Truth, SG1: "Origin")
Culture
- "Everything we believe, all we are, is an affront to them. They will stop at nothing to destroy every last shred of evidence that opposes their fanaticism."
- — Amelius
The Ori had a deeply religious or spiritual culture and as such were suspicious or violent towards anything that challenged their beliefs, destroying objects or killing people who opposed them in order to maintain their culture. After their ascension most of their lives revolved around them gaining power from the power beings and posing as gods as well as planning their attack on the Ancients. (Stargate: The Ark of Truth, SG1: "Origin", "The Fourth Horseman, Part 1")
Technology
The Ori, when humanoid, did not appear to have or even want any technology, but they eventually designed their own technology and delegated its construction to their followers with advanced power sources, energy weapons, shields and hyperdrives. However their technology was more than likely created through the use of knowledge they were able to achieve when they ascended. (Stargate: The Ark of Truth, SG1: "Counterstrike", "Camelot", "Unending")
History
Beginnings
The Ori evolved on Celestis alongside the Alterans. They developed their deeply religious beliefs and hunted down and destroyed all those who opposed them. When the Alterans built a ship and left, the Ori covered up their existence. For some time they continued on as physical beings until they learned how to ascend. The Ori eventually created humans and discovered that when the humans worshipped them, they gained more power, and so developed a religion around themselves to gain more power. (Stargate: The Ark of Truth, Avalon, Part 2: "Origin", "The Fourth Horseman, Part 1")
Invasion
When the Ori learned that the Alterans had survived and ascended as well, they came up with a plan to send their Priors and their armies to the Milky Way to convert more followers and thus gain more power. With more power they would be able to take on and defeat the Alterans. The Ori impregnated Vala Mal Doran with one of their own and allowed her to give birth in the Milky Way without incurring the wrath of the other ascended beings, this young girl - Adria - quickly grew into a woman and led the Ori armies. Some time later SG-1 used an Ancient device to destroy the ascended Ori. Adria later ascended and took on the full mantle of the Ori's power, until another Ancient device was used to convince the followers that she was not a god and she lost her power. She was forced into eternal combat by an ascended Ancient, Ganos Lal.
