The Lord Protector's people are a group of Humans native to the Pegasus galaxy, distinctive chiefly due to their stratified society centered around Lantean ruins.
Overview
The Lord Protector's people are divided into two separate and very distinct classes. There is little to no overlap between the high society and their commoner servants.
The upper class, in possession of the ATA gene reside in the remains of a long-abandoned Lantean city ship. Surrounded by colourful decoration reminiscent of medieval Earth, this royalty lives a lavish lifestyle hallmarked by court intrigue and excess. In exchange for using the Lantean weapons to defend the planet from Wraith attacks, the royalty demands a tribute of half of the villagers' harvest.
Some distance away, the lower class members of the society live in an impoverished village that acts as a hub for their agrarian lifestyle. A simple people, the lower class lives in fear of the upper class and their enforcers, who frequently come to the village in shows of force from the royalty. Despite this, the lower class defers to the royalty with a mixture of fear and reverence, sometimes even thanking the Lord Protector in prayers before meals. (ATL: "The Tower")
History
Some time many centuries ago, a group of people with the ATA gene made the remains of the city ship their home, recognizing their unique ability to use its technologies. An insular, self-preservation-oriented mode of thought evolved, manifesting itself as the desire to preserve the purity of their royal bloodlines.
Around 300 years ago, the potency of the ATA gene in the royal bloodlines began to degrade, until by 2006 it was a mere shadow of its former ability. The hope to renew this ability became reality when a team from the Atlantis expedition, led by ATA-possessing Lt. Col. John Sheppard visited the world. Sheppard and his team inadvertently became involved in the royal intrigues until finally draining the city ship of its little remaining power–rendering the class stratification of the natives a moot point.
