Loki was a member of the Asgard Ruling Council and felt that the answers to the Asgard cloning problems lay within Human genetics. He traveled to Earth and abducted at least eight people, replacing them with cloned duplicates so as not to arouse suspicion, returning the originals a week later and destroying the duplicates. In 1985 he was found out by the other Asgard, captured and stripped of his title.
When Loki found out about Jack O'Neill and how he was able to have the Ancient Repository of Knowledge downloaded into his head, signifying that he may hold the key to reducing their cloning problems, he formulated a plan. While the other Asgard were preoccupied with the war with the Replicators, Loki returned to Earth and took O'Neill and replaced him with a clone, however O'Neill's DNA had been safeguarded by the other Asgard to protect him so the clone only grew to be around 15 years old.
When the clone O'Neill started to remember what had happened, SG-1 formulated a plan to catch Loki. The clone took a Zat'nik'tel and stunned Loki then transported the rest of SG-1 aboard. They contacted Thor who arrived shortly after and managed to repair the faulty genes in the clone and took Loki back to their homeworld. It is assumed that Loki died along with the rest of the Asgard on Orilla. (SG1: "Fragile Balance", "Unending")
