The Hoth microorganism is a microorganism from Hoth.
Overview
These microorganisms will infect other beings, bypassing the immune system and attacking the nervous system, causing nausea and some muscle stiffness before the affected loses consciousness and dies. It is resilient to antibiotics and can survive when frozen. (SGU: "Time")
History
The microorganisms were frozen in the ice on Hoth and a sample of which was taken back to Destiny, where it was unfrozen. The microorganisms were so small that they were not detected when the water was inspected and it spread into the entire water supply, growing in size and infecting the entire crew. Using intelligence gathered from a Kino that came from an alternate timeline, the crew used Squiggler venom to stop its spread and destroy the microorganisms. (SGU: "Water", "Time")
Alternate Timelines
- In an alternate timeline, the effects of the microorganisms began to be felt on a jungle planet but before they could determine what they were infected with or how to stop it they were killed by the Squigglers. (SGU: "Time")
- In another alternate timeline, the crew discovered a Kino from the previous timeline that detailed what had happened to them. They discovered that the Squiggler venom could be used to cure them however the team sent to collect it were killed. Those still on board the ship died from the microorganisms. (SGU: "Time")
