Hieroglyphs are characters within language that represent ideas, themes or even words usually depicted as animals, objects or religious concepts. The Ancient Egyptians used hieroglyphs as a form of writing as do the Goa'uld. (SG1: "Children of the Gods", "Within the Serpent's Grasp")
