Early life

Eli was born in 1984 and during his younger years he wanted to become a veterinarian and so his mother got him a hamster to teach him responsibility. He left the cage door open, the hamster got out and his father accidentally stepped on it, Eli then decided against becoming a vet. When he was seven or eight, his grandfather died and Eli became aware of his own mortality. When he was fourteen years old his mother was stuck with a needle trying to restrain a junkie and contracted HIV and his father, unable to deal, left them both. Later on in life, he went to MIT however he dropped out after one semester. (SGU: "Darkness", "Trial and Error", "Time", "Air, Part 1", "Seizure")

Icarus Base

Eli playing Prometheus

Eli started playing Prometheus, a game, which had been embedded with an Ancient mathematical proof. Eli spent a month figuring out how to solve the proof however when he applied his solution, he was sent back to the start of the game. Eli was approached by General Jack O'Neill and Dr. Nicholas Rush who offered him a job if he signed a non-disclosure agreement, however he was not convinced, so Rush had himself and Eli beamed up to the George Hammond and shown just what he would be dealing with and he agreed to the deal. (SGU: "Air, Part 1")

Eli arrived on Icarus Base and was given a short tour of the facility. When they attempted to dial the ninth chevron using Eli's solution, it failed and Eli went to work with Rush in finding the answer. Eli went to a dinner with the senior offiders and Senator Alan Armstrong when the base was attacked by the Lucian Alliance. In a last ditch effort to dial the ninth chevron, Eli figured out that they were using the wrong sequence of symbols and that they should be using the Earth point of origin instead of the planets one. It worked and they were unable to deactivate the Stargate and so had to all evacuate through the Stargate, Eli held his breath as he went through the wormhole. (SGU: "Air, Part 1")

Destiny

Upon coming aboard Destiny, Eli went with Lt. Scott to find Dr. Rush, who had wandered off. Eli then helped in locating damaged sections of the ships hull and repair them to conserve oxygen. Eli volunteered to go the desert planet in the search for material to replace the substance in the CO2 scrubbers in order to filter the air aboard. When Sgt. Curtis and Drs Palmer and Franklin decided to return to the Stargate and try searching another planet, Eli radioed Scott and told him. When suitable material was found, Eli had to place his arm into the event horizon of the Stargate to keep it open as the others ran back to the gate. (SGU: "Air, Part 1", "Air, Part 2", "Air, Part 3")

When the ship lost all power, Eli began to use the Kinos to get people to record messages, even if for posterity. Eli hoped to get chosen on the lottery to go on one of the shuttles to a planet as Destiny was on a collision course with a nearby star, however he was not chosen. He gave the Kino with the messages to Sgt. Riley who placed it in the airlock behind the shuttle. When it left, Eli flew the Kino out so he could get a look at Destiny from the outside. Eli and Chloe sat on the observation deck watching as the ship flew near the star. When it became apparent that Destiny would survive and was using the star to recharge its power reserves, Eli helped in coming up with a trajectory to give to the shuttle so that it could get back to the ship before it jumped into FTL. (SGU: "Darkness", "Light")

Eli and Chloe out on Earth

When in search of water on an ice planet, Eli used his new invention the Kino sled to help them bring back chunks of ice to be melted for drinking water. While Dr. Rush wanted to keep the fact that an alien cloud had come aboard and severly injured Corporal Gorman but Eli blurted it out over the radio to Col. Young and Rush chastised him for it. Eli used the communication stones to go back to Earth and speak to his mother, albeit using an alias, later on Earth he went with Chloe and her friends to a club. When going offworld in search of food and water, two Kinos were found from two different timelines and Eli showed the video footage which gave them the answer to cure the microorganism they had all been affected with. (SGU: "Water", "Earth", "Time")

Eli was asked to go over the attempts to dial Earth and see if Rush was lying about it being not possible. Rush announced that he accessed the link to the seed ships and found evidence of an Icarus-like planet one year ahead of them and later Eli found this to have been falsified data that Rush had planted. When Sg.t Spencer was found dead, Eli was part of a small group with an alibi and took part in a search of everyone's quarters to find the murder weapon, finding it in a vent in Col. Young's quarters. Eli went over the Kino footage and found that Spencer's message he recorded before he killed himself had been deleted and that Rush was behind it. When aliens attacked Destiny, Eli worked on operating the weapons systems. (SGU: "Life", "Justice", "Space")

When the civilians mutinied against the military control of the ship, Eli was in the control interface room and radioed that someone was moving control of the ship to somewhere else. Eli was used as a bargaining chip and was sent over to the civilian side to help in transferring power to the ships shields. The ship dropped out of FTL in a star system that did not appear on any maps and required a month to complete a loop of the system before it could get back into FTL, so the crew sent down a large team to collect supplies from the only planet but Eli remained on the ship, wondering if it was a mistake sending people to the planet. (SGU: "Divided", "Faith")

Eli went with a team exploring a planet covered in ruins and became trapped in underground tunnels. Unable to dig the team out, the crew had to leave them behind. Eli used the Kino to locate an exit but was unable to locate the Kino in relation to them, however Chloe found maps to be on some of the walls and they found a way out. Eli suggested using the Stargates to catch up to Destiny, however he was unable to tell which way led to Destiny and they found themselves back at a planet they had already visited. Eli mentioned that they should use the ship on the planet and its navigational data to find where to go to get back to the ship, however when they reached a planet that led to Destiny, another search team was dialing in and they were unable to connect before the ship left. (SGU: "Human", "Lost")

Luckily Destiny had been sabotaged and one of the FTL engines exploded and the ship dropped out of FTL and they dialed in. Eli then had to work with Rush and Dr. Amanda Perry on bypassing the damaged engine and getting the ship back into FTL before the Nakai arrived and began to attack them again. When several members of the expedition became infected with tick-like parasites, Eli found Chloe talking to a hallucination of her father and was asked by her not to tell anyone. (SGU: "Sabotage", "Pain")

Incursion

Eli carries the injured Chloe

When it was discovered that the Lucian Alliance had the means to dial Destiny, Eli and Chloe took refuge in the Kino room as they dial in, however when the Alliance revealed that they had devices to open the doors, Eli and Chloe had to flee. Chloe was shot in the leg as they entered an elevator and sent across to the front of the ship. Eli had to carry Chloe as they attempted to walk back, on the way he was contacted by Rush who told him that Lt. Scott and Sgt. Greer were still outside the ship and he had to get to the nearby airlock to let them in before a burst of deadly radiation killed them. Eli made it in time but they did not, luckily they took refuge on the other side of the ship before making their way to the airlock and into the ship. Eli and the others made their way to where Rush and Brody were hiding and then moved into the hydroponics lab to be sealed in as Rush intended to dial shield strength back and kill the Alliance soldiers aboard, as the expedition members who had been captured had been put off the ship, however the Alliance soldiers surrendered before the plan was enacted. (SGU: "Subversion", "Incursion, Part 1", "Incursion, Part 2", "Intervention")

The "mission"

After the Alliance soldiers were detained, supplies were low so a team was going to take a shuttle to go to a nearby planet to collect what they could. Eli was part of this team, however their shuttle lost power and crashed on the planet. Eli went with a group to locate the Stargate and attempt to repair it to get back to the ship. Shortly after getting back to the ship, they came across one of the seed ships that was disabled and boarded it. Eli discovered that the ship had a large power reserve which could be channeled into Destiny and be used to dial Earth, however a group of aliens aboard reversed the power flow and began to draw energy from Destiny so Eli had to tell Col. Telford how to disconnect the seed ship from Destiny. (SGU: "Aftermath", "Awakening")

Eli returned to Earth using the communication stones and learned that his mother had gotten ill and was in the hospital. Eli, in someone else's body, told her who he was and what had happened to him, however she did not believe him. Eli called Camile Wray who got Eli's mother clearance to use the communication stones and come aboard Destiny to see what Eli was doing. Eli was part of a team that went offworld where Lt. Scott became infected with an alien organism. Back on the ship, Eli began to work with Ginn, a Lucian Alliance prisoner on finding the means to dial back to Earth. The two began to develop feelings for one another which grew into a physical relationship. (SGU: "Pathogen", "Cloverdale", "Trial and Error")

Eli worked with Amanda Perry after Rush and Young became trapped aboard an alien ship on moving Destiny towards the ship so they could get back. Eli was enraged that Rush had access to the bridge for some time now and not told anyone. When Simeon, one of the Alliance soldiers, killed Ginn and Dr. Perry then escaped the ship, Eli wanted a gun and to go after him, but Young wouldn't allow it, instead sending a team of soldiers. When it appeared that the teams would have to come back to the ship before it jumped to FTL, allowing Simeon to escape, Eli helped in turning Destiny around to come back for them. When the group of people who remained behind on the artificial planet returned, Eli examined a Kino found on their shuttle, showing their last moments before they died and were somehow brought back to life by unknown aliens. (SGU: "The Greater Good", "Malice", "Visitation")

Eli works with Rush

When the ship was attacked by automated drones, Eli was talking to Chloe, who was detained due to her being infected with an alien pathogen, who escaped from detainment. Eli later came up with the idea of jamming the link between the drones to disable them and allow them to destroy the command ship. Another command ship was coming to them so Eli and Rush decided to reprogram the remaining drones to attack the new ones and allow the ship to escape. Some time later Eli announced that his plan to dial Earth would work and before attempting to dial, a shuttle arrived with an alternate Rush on it, telling them that the plan caused the expedition to die in the wormhole and damage the ship. (SGU: "Resurgence", "Deliverance", "Twin Destinies")

The Lucian Alliance crashed a cargo ship into the The Pentagon with a Naquadria bomb on board in an attack on Earth, however it failed to detonate. Two visiting people on board the ship - Senator Michaels and Dr. Andrew Covel - were trapped as the stones were damaged so Eli came up with a plan to force an FTL dropout and disconnect the stones so Varro could give instructions on how to disarm the bomb to Camile Wray and Greer. After it was found that Ginn's consciousness had survived and surfaced in Chloe's body, Eli was happy but stopped her from kissing him as she was in Chloe's body. Eli and Rush figured out a way to uploaded the mind of Ginn (and Amanda Perry) to Destiny's computer. (SGU: "Alliances", "Hope")

When Dr. Rodney McKay came aboard, he and Eli discussed his solution to dialing Destiny from Langara. Meanwhile Rush gets himself trapped in a simulation using the Neural Interface Chair and Eli worked on a solution to get him out, quarantining Ginn and Perry's minds to safely remove Rush. While exploring a new section of the ship, Eli, Rush and Brody found stasis pods and Rush told them to leave them until later, however Eli and Brody checked them out anyway. When Rush found out he activated one of the pods Brody was working in and froze him, Eli believed that he had done it and worked to undo it. (SGU: "Seizure", "The Hunt")

Descendants

Eli goes offworld and meets with a group of humans who claim to be descendants of the expedition. Eli examines a data storage device which has footage of the alternate crew arriving on their planet and some information on how they settled the planet. When the drones attack this colony and disable the Stargate, Eli comes up with the idea of using the Stargates subspace link to send a morse code message back to Destiny to tell them they are still alive. Back on the ship, the crew decide to take the colonists back to their homeworld, but they find it abandoned and in the midst of a volcanic winter. (SGU: "Common Descent")

On their homeworld, Eli and the others examined the database and watched Kino footage of the original crew, Eli finding out his alternate self married Cpl. Barnes and had children and grandchildren. He finds evidence that the people built ships and fled the planet when they discovered that a rogue black hole was passing through their solar system. Going through the database that they uncovered Eli was unable to find a cure for the ALS that was to affect Lt. Johansen. (SGU: "Epilogue")

When the drones begin to blockade every star that Destiny uses to recharge, Eli comes up with the idea of using a blue supergiant to recharge the ship and he, Rush and Lisa Park stay on board to pilot the ship through the intense heat and radiation of the star. When Park becomes trapped in the garden saving the last of the plants, Eli wanted to help her but Rush convinced him to stay and help pilot the ship as Park would be find in side wearing the inter-pressure suit. During the recharge, Eli panics but Rush reassures him that he is the only one who can do it. When the ship begins to leave the star, Eli rushes to the garden and brings Park back in, however she opened her eyes after the dome breached and was blinded. (SGU: "Blockade")

Eli looks out over the ship

Eli and Rush go over the data the collected from the drones and find that they are at every star and planet in their path until the end of the galaxy. Eli proposes a plan to enter FTL and leave the galaxy, however with little supplies they need to all enter stasis in order to survive. Eli uses the stones to go back to Earth and says goodbye to his mother. When he returns he finds out that eight of the stasis pods do not work and need to be repaired. A plan is devised to draw the drones away from a planet where they can get the supplies they need to fix the pods and Eli comes up with the plan of detonating the remotely-controlled shuttle they use as bait and destroying the drone command ship. The plan works however one of the pods is unable to be fixed quickly, so Eli volunteers to stay out as he is the only one who can fix the pod in time. With the rest of the crew in stasis, Eli goes to the observation deck and watches as the ship flies through FTL. (SGU: "Gauntlet")
