"We're not supposed to be there, sir. These are the wrong people in the wrong place and, as a group, they're just not qualified."
Everett Young

The Destiny expedition is a team of 80+ military personnel and scientists who were forced to evacuate from Icarus Base when it came under attack, forced to evacuate to the Ancient vessel Destiny, billions of light years from Earth.

Overview.gifOverview

Most of the members of the Destiny expedition were not the originally chosen group to go through the Stargate when the ninth chevron was activated. Colonel David Telford was to be the commander of the Destiny expedition and many of the scientists on board were not to be part of the expedition but merely as Icarus Base personnel. Due to the nature of how the ninth chevron was dialed and the evacuation that followed, the expedition was made up of people not originally intended to go. (SG1: "Air, Part 1", "Air, Part 3")

The Destiny expedition is comprised of 80+ military and civilian personnel from Icarus Base. They expedition is later joined by several members of the Lucian Alliance. (SGU: "Air, Part 1", "Incursion, Part 1", "Pathogen")

Supplies

Main article: Destiny expedition supplies

Due to the rushed evacuation of Icarus Base, the expedition was ill equipped in food, water, ammunition and other supplies. They have had to resort to finding these supplies in offworld excursions such as the desert planet (material for the C02 scrubbers), Hoth (water), the jungle planet (fruit and water) and Eden (food and water). Arrival

The expedition arrives

When Icarus Base was attacked and evacuated, there were 80+ people missing. These people had evacuated through the Stargate to the Ancient vessel Destiny. Upon arriving they discovered that the CO2 scrubbers on the ship were not functioning properly, there were holes in the hull and the atmosphere was getting very thin. To remedy this, Destiny dropped out of FTL in range of a planet with deposits of calcium carbonate which could be used to fix the scrubbers. A team was assembled to go to this planet an track down the material to fix the scrubbers, barely making it back through the Stargate before Destiny jumped back into FTL. (SGU: "Air, Part 1", "Air, Part 2", "Air, Part 3")

Shortly after, the ship began to lose power, eventually going dark and dropping out of FTL. Soon it was discovered that Destiny was to perform an aero-braking maneuver around a gas giant. Following this they discovered that the ship was in a system with three possible planets for settling however the ship was headed directly for the star in the system and would not survive, due to a lack of power. A lottery was drawn to determine the 15 people to go on the shuttle to the only habitable planet of the three and they soon left. Destiny however planned to head for the star using its energy to recharge. The shuttle returned quickly to Destiny before it jumped into FTL. (SGU: "Darkness", "Light")

Search for Supplies

Young and Scott look for water

Another problem arose quickly, some alien lifeforms began siphoning water out of the water store so when Destiny dropped out of FTL Colonel Everett Young and Lt. Matthew Scott went to a frozen planet to find ice to melt for water. With this the expedition managed to replenish its reserves for a while. Later the International Oversight Advisory hatched a plan to dial Earth when recharging in the star, however the plan failed and the expedition remained on board, luckily Dr. Nicholas Rush had put safeguards in place to protect the ship and the expedition members. (SGU: "Water", "Earth")

Traveling offworld, a team found two Kinos - one with footage of the crew being killed by alien creatures and another detailing how there is a microorganism in the water they brought back that would kill them and the only way to cure it is the venom from one of these creatures. Armed with this knowledge a team managed to get one of these creatures and use its venom to cure the disease among the crew. Checking out other areas of the ship, the expedition find a Neural Interface Chair that may lead to the key for control over the ship, however the crew is forbidden from using it. The expedition also begins growing their own food. (SGU: "Time", "Life")

After Sgt. Spencer was found dead and Col. Young was implicated a trial was held with Camile Wray leading the prosecution and Chloe Armstrong leading Young's defense. During this time Camile Wray took control of the expedition and allowed Dr. Rush to begin studying the neural interface chair, only to have Dr. Jeremy Franklin sit in the chair when no one was around and end up in a coma. The trial ended as no more information could be extracted, however Eli Wallace found evidence that Rush had tried to frame Young for Spencers suicide. Later a team also went offworld and found a crashed alien ship, both Rush and Young went to check it out but had to go back as Destiny was about to leave, Young accused Rush of trying to frame him, they fought and Young knocked out Rush and left him.(SGU: "Justice")

First Battles

The aliens attack Destiny

Some time later Colonel Young went to use the long-range communication stones to report to Earth and found himself in an alien body on an alien ship, which led the aliens to come for Destiny, attacking the ship and capturing Chloe. Young used the stones to go aboard the ship again and found Rush captive and released him. Rush found Chloe on the ship and stole a fighter to bring them both back to Destiny. Due to Young's actions in leaving Rush behind, he and Wray formed a plan to take control of Destiny, causing a mutiny on board. A stand-off occurred but was eventually stopped when some of the military made it into civilian controlled area. The aliens showed up again and started an attack and it was discovered that Rush had a tracking implant in him and it had to be removed so they could escape. (SGU: "Space", "Divided")

Coming across a seemingly perfect world, the expedition sends down part of the crew in order to gather supplies, when the time comes to return to Destiny many of them do not want to go back opting for staying on this world and living their lives. Col. Young ordered the military members to return yet let any of the civilians remain if they wanted, only a handful stayed behind. Rush took an opportunity to use the neural interface chair in order to find the master code in order to gain control over the ships systems. During this a team went offworld and found underground ruins, entering them and coming in contact with a giant spider creature and became trapped. (SGU: "Faith", "Human")

Destiny re-entered FTL and the team trapped had to remain behind, when they next exited FTL, a team used the Stargates to go back to the planet and look for them. At the time they only found Ronald Greer near the gate as the others had already left believing that he had died in a cave in. The others went the wrong way and ended up on the planet with the crashed alien fighter, discovering that they were going the wrong way and that Destiny was nearing the edge of the galaxy and if they didn't get back to Destiny before it re-entered FTL then they would never get back. Luckily, however the ship was sabotaged just when leaving allowing them to get back in time. The ship was repaired and left the galaxy. (SGU: "Lost", "Sabotage")

A New Galaxy

The Lucian Alliance takes prisoners

Shortly after arriving in this new galaxy, some members of the crew became infected by a tick-like parasite which caused hallucinations and paranoia. Rush began to have dreams about being on Earth and being in contact with members of the Lucian Alliance. Rush went back to Earth and found out that Telford was a spy for the Alliance and that they had the means to dial into Destiny. Rush was found out and forced to help them prefect their technology. Meanwhile on board Destiny they prepared for the incursion. When they arrived they broke out of the gateroom and fired on the expedition. They eventually gained control over part of the ship and this led to the military members of the crew surrendering in order to save the others. (SGU: "Pain", "Subversion", "Incursion, Part 1", "Incursion, Part 2")

The Lucian Alliance soldiers were convinced to let them live and they were sent offworld, Rush and some others stayed behind, in secret, to take back the ship. Sealing off the ship and allowing the shields to deplete under the strain of a binary pulsar which would also fry the Lucian Alliance members, they managed to retake the ship from them. Shortly after, Rush discovered the master code and gained access to the bridge, gaining control over the ships systems. The ship then came across a Stargate Seed ship and attempted to use its power reserves to dial Earth however a group of Ursini aboard the seed ship stopped it before they could dial out. Telford was captured by the aliens as Destiny left. (SGU: "Intervention", "Aftermath", "Awakening")

Soon it was discovered that Chloe was infected with a virus which caused to start doing things she didn't remember and writing in a strange alien language. Rush came up with the idea of using the neural interface chair to cure her, however it didn't work. When offworld Lt. Scott was infected by an alien organism and Chloe's blood, still infected with the virus, was the only way to cure him of the infection. Later Col. Young began to have strange dreams about Destiny being destroyed by the same aliens who took Chloe and wanted her back, which turned out to be Destiny using a neural link to test Young to determine if he was the right leader. (SGU: "Pathogen", "Cloverdale", "Trial and Error")

The Mission

They discover the bridge

When investigating an alien ship, Young and the others discover that Rush has had access to the bridge and the systems of Destiny for some time. Several members of the expedition were killed when one of the Lucian Alliance prisoners, Simeon, escaped the ship. Dropping out of FTL, the expedition finds one of its shuttles next to it, with the people who stayed behind on Eden, not remembering a thing about how they got there or what happened to them. These people soon started to die in strange ways and it was discovered that they had died on the planet and some unseen beings had returned them but was unable to keep them alive. (SGU: "The Greater Good", "Malice", "Visitation")

The expedition took the ship to a location of space and found a battlefield of destroyed ships and some active robot drones who attacked the ship. Caught off guard the ship was drained and headed for destruction, the seed ship with Telford on board showed up and helped them out, leading them to a nearby star where they lost the drones. Telford told them that the aliens aren't bad just desperate to go home without the drones attacking them. The Ursini wanted their help in taking out the Drone command ship but during the battle the seed ship was destroyed. Chloe, still under the effect of the virus contacted the Nakai who came and helped out and removed the virus from Chloe. (SGU: "Resurgence", "Deliverance")

Soon after, the ship came across another Destiny, this one from an alternate timeline, where the crew had tried to dial earth but all died in the wormhole. Rush was all that was left on board. The crew then took the time to go aboard and take all the supplies they needed. When the Lucian Alliance attacked The Pentagon, the expedition members were unable to use the communication stones for some time. When they finally started working again they discovered that Ginn and Amanda Perry, who had both been killed while using the stones, had somehow survived and took control over Chloe's body, until they were transferred into Destiny's computer. Going offworld to gather supplies, the team was attacked and TJ and Reynolds were taken hostage by a predator creature. (SGU: "Twin Destinies", "Alliances", "Hope", "The Hunt")

Descendants

Descendants of the alternate expedition

Going offworld the expedition discovered that their alternate selves had ended up on a planet called Novus and started a civilization which spread to other worlds. The drones, drawn to the activation of the Stargate, attacked and disabled the gate. Destiny had to come and pick them up offering to take the people on the planet back to Novus, whom they had not heard from in years. Arriving on Novus they found massive cities abandoned and a rogue black hole was passing through the system and tearing the planet apart and that their descendants had built ships after the gate was destroyed and went out into the galaxy to survive. (SGU: "Common Descent", "Epilogue")

When the drones kept blockading all the stars Destiny uses to recharge, the expedition left the ship while it recharged in a blue supergiant, a star far hotter and more dangerous than it may be able to handle. With this the ship was recharged but the drones were still blocking all the other stars and planets in range and they did not have enough power to fight them off for long. They devised a plan to put themselves in stasis and let Destiny continue in FTL to the next galaxy and bypass the drones altogether. All of the crew went into stasis except for Eli who's pod was broken, he stayed out to fix the pod as the others slept. (SGU: "Blockade", "Gauntlet")

Alternate timelines.gifAlternate Timelines

The team arrive on the jungle planet
  • In an alternate timeline, a team from Destiny visited a jungle planet to gather supplies. An alternate Volker became sick followed by others and the alternate TJ quarantined them on the planet. During the night the team was attacked by nocturnal creatures and many of them were killed, during this time they discovered that the wormhole was unstable due to the presence of a solar flare. Lieutenant Matthew Scott was the only one left alive the next morning and sent the Kino through to determine if it was safe but received no confirmation and decided to go through anyway. The others left on Destiny eventually succumbed from a disease in the water. (SGU: "Time")
They arrive on Novus
  • In an alternate timeline, the expedition found a Kino on the jungle planet detailing what happened to the other crew. A team was sent to the planet to find one of the creatures whose venom could cure the disease in the water, however they were all killed. The remaining crew on Destiny died from the disease. Once again the only one left alive, Lt. Scott recorded a message about the disease in the water and that the creatures venom was the cure and sent it through the Stargate to be found by yet another expedition. (SGU: "Time")
  • In an alternate timeline, an alternate expedition attempted to dial Earth while recharging in a star and when the situation proved disastrous they all had to flee through the Stargate, however due to the unstable conditions within the star they did not arrive on Earth and were sent back in time 2,000 years to another planet. This planet was barely habitable so they went through the gate to another more habitable world, they called this new world Novus and set up a new civilization, moving on with their lives. (SGU: "Twin Destinies", "Common Descent", "Epilogue")
