"You are...brilliant. One of the most caring, passionate...you're the type of person who would give his own life for someone he doesn't even know. If you had one fault, it was that you wanted to save people so badly, y-you wanted to help people so much, that it tore you apart when you couldn't make a difference."
Samantha Carter

Dr. Daniel Jackson PhD is an archaeologist and linguist who was responsible for deciphering and unlocking the Stargate to allow Earth to explore the universe. Born on July 8th, 1965 to Claire and Melburn Jackson, Daniel has since displayed a strong moral compass and highly ethical standards even when faced with difficult situations.

As an important member of SG-1 Daniel joined to find a way to save his wife Sha're from possession of the Goa'uld, Amaunet. Upon her death he stayed on SG-1 to continue the fight against the Goa'uld, until his death and ascension in 2002. He later returned to mortal form, rejoined SG-1 and continued the fight. Early life

When Daniel was 8 years old his parent were killed in an accident at the New York Museum of Art when an exhibit collapsed on them both. He was taken by his grandfather, Nicholas Ballard, however as he was travelling all over the world he refused to take care of Daniel, who soon went into foster care.

Daniel grew up to become an archaeologist and linguist and an expert in ancient cultures and languages. He studied under Dr. David Jordan and worked with Robert Rothman while researching his dissertation, which he put forward the theory of cross-pollination of ancient cultures and that the Egyptian pyramids were not built by the ancient Egyptians and were in fact landing pads for alien spaceships. His theories caused him to lose status among the scientific community. (SG1: "The Gamekeeper", "Crystal Skull", "Stargate", "The Curse")

Abydos expedition

In 1994 Daniel Jackson was approached by Catherine Langford to take part in a top secret program. He journeyed to Creek Mountain facility where he went to work for two weeks deciphering strange symbols on the Abydos cartouche before being introduced into the Stargate where his work allowed for the opening of the gate to Abydos. He accompanied a team to Abydos where they were met with a primitive human culture and had their first meeting with the Goa'uld Ra. He and Jack O'Neill managed to take down Ra and free the people of Abydos and he decided to remain behind on Abydos with his new wife Sha're. (Stargate)

SG-1

"I joined this program so that I could find my wife."
— Daniel Jackson

Daniel lived on Abydos for over a year discovering the Abydos Cartouche chamber and attempting to use the data to dial other addresses, until the planet was re-visited by Jack O'Neill and a team who believed that Abydos was the location that a mysterious alien took a female airman after he and his soldiers attacked the SGC. Daniel changed this theory when he showed the team a cartouche room on Abydos he discovered and posited that the Stargate was capable of travelling to thousands of worlds all over the galaxy. The mysterious alien, a Goa'uld named Apophis showed up in Abydos, killed most of the team and kidnapped Daniels new wife, Sha're and her brother Skaara. Daniel returned to Earth with the team to help locate them by joining SG-1.

Daniel explaining his theories

Daniel travelled with the team to Chulak and deciphered the Dial Home Device on the other side to determine the point of origin to return to Earth. He, O'Neill and Samantha Carter went in search of Sha're and Skaara and came upon the Jaffa city on Chulak and were invited to a feast when it was believed they were gods. At this feast, Apophis and Sha're (under the control of Apophis' mate Amaunet) arrived and Daniel attempted to get to her only to be knocked down by Apophis' hand device and captured along with O'Neill and Carter. After they escaped Daniel helped facilitate the evacuation of the other prisoners through the Stargate back to Earth. (SG1: "Children of the Gods")

Jackson was responsible for the discovery that Ernest Littlefield had gone through the Stargate in 1945 and had been living on another planet for 52 years. He went to notify Ernest's fiancée, Catherine Langford that they were going on a mission to recover him, defying secrecy by telling her. On this planet Ernest was found alive and Jackson made the discovery that a castle on this planet was the meeting place of four races and told the rest of his team he was staying behind to study the place despite the possibility of the Stargate falling into the ocean, stranding him, however he did return home. (SG1: "The Torment of Tantalus")

Daniel being affected with Nish'ta

Several months later while on a mission, Daniel was captured by the Oannes known as Nem and left behind on the planet after Nem altered the memories of the other team members so they believed he was dead. Daniel managed to convince Nem to perform a procedure on him to extract knowledge of Nem's mate who Daniel may have read about a long time ago to allow him to be freed. (SG1: "Fire and Water")

Daniel was responsible for supplying Hathor with genetic material, through sexual intercourse, used for the creation of new symbiotes after being affected by Hathor's Nish'ta, however he claimed to have no knowledge of this incident while under the affect of the drug. (SG1: "Hathor")

While on P3R-233 Daniel uncovered the Quantum Mirror and was inadvertently transported to an alternate reality. In this reality Earth was under attack by the Goa'uld and the Daniel of that reality was never part of the Stargate program. Daniel convinced the Jack O'Neill of that reality to help him return to his Earth and try to prevent the same thing happening. (SG1: "There But for the Grace of God")

Daniel travels to another reality

With this information Daniel and SG-1 traveled to another world but soon discovered they had gated onto a ship that soon headed towards Earth. Attempting to destroy the ship, Daniel was shot by a staff weapon and told the rest of the team to leave him behind. After they left, he made his way to a sarcophagus and healed himself before using the Stargate on board to gate to the Alpha Site. (SG1: "Within the Serpent's Grasp", "The Serpent's Lair")

On a mission to P3R-636 Daniel saved the life of Shyla, the daughter of Pyrus, who ruled over the planet. Shyla took responsibility for Daniel while the rest of SG-1 were imprisoned. Daniel became addicted to the sarcophagus and when he managed to have SG-1 freed and returned to Earth began to experience severe withdrawal symptoms. After his recovery he convinced Shyla to destroy the sarcophagus. (SG1: "Need")

After one Abydonian year, Jackson returned to Abydos with Teal'c to inform Kasuf that he had not found her daughter. Upon arriving Kasuf took them to see Sha're who had returned after she had become impregnated by Apophis. Apophis hid her away to hid her from the other system lords while she gave birth to a Harsesis child. Daniel had to birth the child and hid the boy on Abydos to prevent it from falling into Apophis' hands. (SG1: "Secrets")

While exploring a planet SG-1 encountered Ma'chello and Daniel switched bodies with him. Ma'chello used Daniels body to indulge in the pleasures of Earth while Daniel was slowly dieing in Ma'chello's body and it wasn't until Daniel convinced Ma'chello to allow him to return to his body to continue searching for his wife did they switch back. (SG1: "Holiday")

Daniel is crazy

While exploring a Goa'uld facility, Daniel was infected by one of Ma'chello's Goa'uld killing devices which began to cause him to hear voices and hallucinate and eventually have schizophrenic-like symptoms causing him to be locked away. It wasn't until he came into physical contact with Teal'c did the device leave Daniel. (SG1: "Legacy")

Daniel helped with the rescue of the Abydonians who were taken prisoner by Amaunet as a ruse to taking back the Harsesis and was attacked by Amaunet using a hand device which Sha're used to send a message to Daniel asking him to find the Harsesis and protect him. Amaunet was killed by Teal'c, saving Daniel's life. (SG1: "Forever in a Day")

Months later Daniel located the planet Amaunet sent the Harsesis to, Kheb and met with the ascended being Oma Desala who had been caring for the child and he left the child in her care. (SG1: "Maternal Instinct")

Later Daniel was reunited with his estranged grandfather, Nicholas Ballard when SG-1 discovered a crystal skull and Daniel was transported into an alternate dimension. Nicholas was able to see and hear Daniel when others could not, because he to had been affected by a crystal skull. With Nicholas' help SG-1 managed to bring Daniel back and Nicholas stayed behind on the planet to learn from the aliens on the planet. (SG1: "Crystal Skull")

During the SGC's interaction with the Eurondans who were offering advanced technology in exchange for heavy water to help them win a war. Daniel was hesitant to proceed as they had no information about the war or the enemies the Eurondans faced, however others were less willing to deny them what they needed. (SG1: "The Other Side")

While conducting research on ancient Goa'uld remains on P3X-888 Daniel was captured by an Unas named Chaka and learned much about their society befriending Chaka in the process and saving his own life. (SG1: "The First Ones")

Daniel learned that his old archaeology professor had died, he attended his funeral and was asked to help locate a missing item by an old girlfriend and colleague, Sarah Gardener. He discovered that an item from the same dig was a canopic jar with a preserved symbiote in it and that there were two jars, one which was missing. He soon discovered that the Goa'uld in the missing jar, Osiris, had taken Sarah as host and escaped in a hidden ship in Egypt. (SG1: "The Curse")

Osiris tortures Daniel

SG-1 was contacted by Kasuf and they went to Abydos where they met with Shifu, the Harsesis child of Apophis. Jackson asked the boy for the information he possessed on Goa'uld technology, however Oma Desala had shielded that information from him to protect him. Shifu gave Daniel a vision of what would happen if someone were to have that knowledge and the corrupting power of it. (SG1: "Absolute Power")

After reviewing some footage from P3X-888, Daniel discovered that Chaka had been captured by some humans for slave labor. With Sg-1's help Daniel freed Chaka and some other Unas however they stayed behind to start an Unas rebellion and free the remaining populations. (SG1: "Beast of Burden")

The SGC was contacted by the Tok'ra asking Daniel to participate in a mission to destroy the entire Goa'uld power class, the System Lords with a poison. Daniel infiltrated the ranks of Yu Huang-Shang Ti and made it aboard a Goa'uld space station. He hesitated releasing the poison as the last system lord to arrive was Osiris in the body of Sarah Gardener who was voting as proxy for Anubis. He tried to kidnap her and escape but was prevented from doing so. (SG1: "Summit", "Last Stand")

Jackson befriended the android Reese and was hesitant to deactivating her when it was discovered she was responsible for the creation of the Replicators. He was upset when O'Neill killed her to stop the Replicators that had infiltrated the base. (SG1: "Menace")

Ascension

"The hardest part of being who or what I am is having the power to change the things I want to change and knowing that I can't. Even when I'm certain, even when it's…absolutely clear to me, even when it affects the people I care about."
— Daniel Jackson
Daniel ascends

When visiting Kelowna SG-1 discovers the people have been experimenting with a unique variation of Naquadah called Naquadria and have built a weapon of mass destruction with it. During a test Daniel is exposed to a lethal dose of radiation when he diffused the weapon and saved Kelwona. The radiation made him sick and he slowly died. During this time Oma Desala visited Daniel and offered him ascension. As an ascended being he was bound by their laws not to interfere with any affairs of lower beings. When Jack O'Neill was captured by Ba'al Daniel offered him ascension when asked to help him break out of Ba'al's fortress. (SG1: "Meridian", "Abyss")

After the Ambush of Kresh'ta Daniel appeared in Teal'c's vision in an attempt to help him realise the delusion and return to the real world. He then witnessed the capture of Bra'tac and Rya'c on Erebus but was forbidden from interfering. (SG1: "The Changeling", "Orpheus")

When Anubis was searching for the Eye of Ra on Abydos Daniel appeared to SG-1 and helped them locate the Eye. He later appeared to Anubis and told him to let SG-1 go and leave Abydos alone in return for the Eye, after discovering some Ancient writings that indicated a cache of Ancient weapons. When Anubis attempted to destroy Abydos Daniel tried to stop him but was prevented from doing so by Oma. (SG1: "Full Circle")

Return

"I think the hardest part is not knowing whether or not I—chose to be here like this. You know, whether I could be doing more good if I was still…"
— Daniel Jackson

Found naked on Vis Uban by its inhabitants, Daniel was returned to mortal form by Oma to protect him from the wrath of the others with him memory stripped. Named by the locals as "Arrom", meaning 'naked one', they welcomed him into their society. Two months later when Jonas Quinn discovered the address of Vis Uban, SG-1 went to the planet and discovered him, bringing him back to Earth. He slowly began regaining his memory and helped the SGC with their plan to destroy Anubis' new superweapon. After Jonas left to return to Kelwona, Daniel rejoined SG-1. (SG1: "Fallen", "Homecoming")

Daniel is returned to mortal form

Slowly some of Daniels memories of when he was ascended became known to him, he recalled the memory of seeing Bra'tac and Rya'c captured by Ba'al's forces and helped to figure out where they were being held. On P2A-347 SG-1 discovered a crashed alien vessel and Daniels body was used as a lifeboat for twelve minds of several passengers. Later he helped to facilitate a mediation between the Unas on P3X-403 and the mining crew from the SGC with the help of Chaka, managing to broker a treaty between the two. (SG1: "Orpheus", "Lifeboat", "Enemy Mine")

Daniel was instrumental in discovering a means to counter the Kull warriors employed by Anubis. He and Dr. Bill Lee were kidnapped by Honduran mercenaries and held for ransom while searching for Telchak's device in the jungles of Honduras. Daniel and Lee were rescued by O'Neill and agent Burke and brought back to the SGC. Daniel was then the focus of Osiris who beamed into his house at night and manipulated his dreams in order to learn the location of the Lost City. Daniel helped SG-1 capture Osiris and with the Tok'ra's help they removed the symbiote and freed Sarah. (SG1: "Evolution, Part 1", "Evolution, Part 2", "Chimera")

When the SGC discovered a secret N.I.D lab and a young woman who claimed to have killed all the personnel, Daniel tried to ascertain how she could have done it, only to discover that she was a clone with the knowledge of the Goa'uld, Sekhmet. (SG1: "Resurrection")

After the discovery of the Ancient outpost in Antarctica, Jackson and Dr. Elizabeth Weir helped negotiate an agreement with the System lords to assassinate Ba'al in exchange for hyperdrive technology. Soon after he helped ascertain the gate address of Atlantis, however he was prevented from going on the original expedition mission. (SG1: "New Order, Part 1", "New Order, Part 2", ATL: "Rising")

When SG-1 traveled to a planet where the Stargate was part of a museum exhibit, their arrival eventually caused civil unrest as a religious group began to gain power. Daniel attempted to prevent a full-scale war but failed and was injured in an attack. He was rescued and eventually helped in taking back the planet from the religious zealots in power. (SG1: "Icon")

The Trust blackmailed Daniel into translating a code used to transport up into a cloaked Al'kesh left behind by Osiris and later this group stole the Stargate from the SGC and began launching attacks against the Goa'uld. Jackson transported aboard and damaged the ships cloaking device allowing the Stargate to be retaken. (SG1: "Affinity", "Endgame")

"Names Olo....Hans Olo."

General Hammind recruited Daniel to become part of the mission to travel to the Pegasus galaxy and determine the fate of the Atlantis expedition. The ship was hijacked by Vala Mal Doran who attempted to sell it to two buyers, however they attracted the attention of the Goa'uld and were forced to abandon it. He retook the ship but Vala escaped and due to the damage to the Prometheus the mission was discontinued. (SG1: "Prometheus Unbound")

During the Goa'uld incursion on Earth and the attempted use of Russian military personnel to initiate a nuclear attack against the United States, Daniel traveled to Russia to help prevent the attack and determine the extent of the Goa'uld incursion. (SG1: "Full Alert")

During the Replicator attack on the Milky Way Daniel was captured by Replicator Carter and tricked into revealing the location of the weapon on Dakara, the only way to stop the Replicators. Daniel was able to use the knowledge RepliCarter was extracting from him to overpower her and momentarily freeze every Replicator. The weapon on Dakara was activated and all the Replicators were destroyed and Daniel Jackson, who was aboard a replicator ship, was killed by RepliCarter shortly before the ship was destroyed. (SG1: "Reckoning, Part 1", "Reckoning, Part 2")

Oma Desala gave Daniel a chance to ascend again but was reluctant after he learned that Anubis was planning on using the weapon on Dakara to destroy all life in the galaxy. Daniel also re-learned that Oma was responsible for ascending Anubis. After Oma engaged Anubis in eternal combat, Daniel was sent back to mortal form. (SG1: "Threads")

Daniel Jackson traveled back in time with SG-1, 5,000 years into the past, to acquire a Zero Point Module from Ra. Their ship was found and they were forced to remain in Ancient Egypt. Deciding not to wait for the inevitable rebellion, SG-1 helped and in turn caused a change of the timeline where the Stargate was never found in Egypt. When an alternate-timeline SG-1 managed to return the timeline, Daniel Jackson never had to travel back in time. (SG1: "Moebius, Part 1", "Moebius, Part 2")

The Ori Crusade

"Yeah, but didn't you feel that was because we had someone...lookin' out for us? I don't think I would say this to anyone else, but for the first time, I'm scared."
— Daniel Jackson
Daniel and Vala in the Ori galaxy

After the defeat of the Goa'uld Daniel decided to leave SG-1 and join the Atlantis expedition but was prevented from going to Atlantis aboard the Daedalus after he was incapacitated by the effects of a Kor mak bracelet put on him by Vala Mal Doran who had come to Earth looking for an Ancient treasure.

Realising that he was linked with Vala he was forced to bring her along when SG-1 went looking for an Ancient treasure underneath the Glastonbury Tor in the United Kingdom where they discovered an Ancient Long-range communication device and switched bodies with Harrid and Sallis, two humans in a far away galaxy, where they came into contact with the Ori and their religious followers and accidently revealed the location of the Milky Way. Feeling responsible for this, Daniel decided to remain with SG-1. (SG1: "Avalon, Part 1", "Avalon, Part 2", "Origin")

Another device found in the Tor revealed the location of a weapon that could be used to stop the Ori and their armies which were about to arrive in the galaxy. They traveled to Camelot and learned that the weapon was in fact the Sangraal, a jewel mentioned in Arthurian legend, and that King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table had gone in search of it on three worlds: Castiana, Sahal and Vagonbrei. (SG1: "Arthur's Mantle", "Camelot")

Daniel rings off the Korolev

When the Ori army arrived in the galaxy and decimated the allied fleet against them Daniel was presumed to have been killed aboard the Korolev when it was destroyed however he had used the rings aboard the Korolev to transport over to one of the Ori motherships. He and Vala, who was aboard the ship, formulated a plan to capture Adria, the daughter of Vala and the new leader of the Ori army but they were prevented from doing so. (SG1: "Flesh and Blood")

Attempting to learn the location of the Sangraal, SG-1 traveled to Atlantis to search the database. He and Vala discovered the names and symbols needed to dial the planets in the Milky Way which were given to them by the ascended Morgan Le Fay who broke the rules to tell them what they needed. (ATL: "The Pegasus Project")

Months later, Vala was given the location of the Sangraal in a dream sent by Adria and SG-1 traveled to this planet to seek it out. They sought the help of the local historian Osric when Ori soldiers turned up in the village and after a series of test they discovered that Osric was in fact Adria in disguise who told them to help her find the Sangraal or she would kill them all. After more tests SG-1 was whisked away to another planet where they discovered Merlin the creator of the Sangraal in stasis.

Reviving him from stasis, Merlin told them how he had retaken human form to create the Sangraal as he saw the Ori as a real threat. He returned to work to create a new Sangraal however his body was failing and in a last ditch effort left his consciousness in the machine he was using to create the Sangraal and died. Daniel realised why Merlin had done that and took control of the machine, taking in Merlin's consciousness and proceeding to build the Sangraal. Soon enough Adria and her army arrived and Daniel was captured. (SG1: "The Quest, Part 1", "The Quest, Part 2")

Daniel as a Prior

In Adria's capture Daniel was persuaded to join her and he was turned into a Prior as Adria wanted him to complete the Sangraal for her so she could destroy the ascended Ancients. SG-1 captured Daniel and he convinced them to put a plan in motion to send the Sangraal through the Supergate and destroy the Ori, however as they did not trust that he was still on their side, he was left behind. He eventually overcame the effects of the Anti-prior device and took control of the Odyssey and completed the plan sending the Sangraal to the Ori home galaxy and destroying the Ori. This did not stop their followers though as more Ori motherships soon arrived. (SG1: "The Shroud")

Sometime in 2007, Daniel met with and recruited Nicholas Rush into the Stargate Program to work on the Icarus project. Later Daniel began having visions that revealed the location of a weapon that could be used against the Ori followers. SG-1 went to the Ori home galaxy in search of this weapon and with the help of Tomin, Vala and Teal'c found the Ark of Truth but were captured by Ori soldiers and taken to the city of Celestis where Daniel learned that it was Morgan Le Fay who had revealed the existence of the Ark to him. They soon found the Ark and with the help of Morgan she revealed the code needed to activate the Ark which Daniel inputted and activated it, taking the power from Adria. Daniel later protested keeping the Ark as it was a very powerful piece of technology. (SGU: "Human", Stargate: The Ark of Truth)

Post-Ori

Daniel and McKay in Janus' lab

After the fall of the Ori Daniel travelled to Atlantis to carry out research on the Lantean scientist Janus. Along with McKay he discovered Janus' Secret lab and a cache of Ancient technology. A device in the lab activated when they entered and alerted a rogue Asgard group, the Vanir, in the Pegasus galaxy of their location. This group came to Atlantis, took the device and kidnapped Dr. McKay and Dr. Jackson.

Daniel starring in an informative video

This group forced Dr. McKay to activate one of Janus' experiments, the Attero device, which destroyed any Wraith ships that entered hyperspace but also caused any Stargate in the galaxy, when activated, to build up energy until it exploded. Dr. Jackson and Dr. McKay eventually managed to disable the device, however Daniel was injured in the process. They were rescued from the planet and returned to Atlantis where Daniel was taken to the infirmary and later sent back to Earth. (ATL: "First Contact", "The Lost Tribe")

In 2009 Daniel had hosted at least six videos used to provide quick information about the Stargate Program to those with clearance. Later in the year he tailed Dr. Nicholas Rush who was attempting to infiltrate the Lucian Alliance while in Col. Telford's body. (SGU: "Air, Part 1", "Subversion")

Personality.gifPersonality

Daniel diffuses the bomb

Morality and Wisdom

Daniel has time and time again demonstrated immense wisdom and unwaivering morality. When faced with no-win situations it clearly upsets him and he has been referenced as being one who would give his own life for someone he didn't even know. When the Kelownans attempted to create a Naquadria bomb Daniel risked his own life (and even had to give it up) in order to save thousands of people. (SG1: "Meridian")

He has shown a willingness to uphold his beliefs even when breaking the laws of other planets. When he discovered that an Unas friend of his, Chaka was captured by a group of humans he went out of his way to persuade others to help him free Chaka, and incite a rebellion among the Unas populations on a planet who were used as slaves. (SG1: "Beast of Burden")

Daniel is upset at the prospect of causing the destruction of a civilisation

Daniel has at times been very distraught with the fact that the actions of SG-1 has led to the near-destruction of civilisations. When it was believed that their very presence on PJ2-445 was causing the death of the locals, Daniel became upset at this idea. (SG1: "One False Step")

Abilities and Skills

Daniel has used his immense skills and knowledge to help out SG-1 and even populations of other planets. His historical and linguistic knowledge has helped to solve some of the mysteries of the universe. Daniel has used his expertise to solve several of the puzzles that were tests in the Hall of Thor's Might allowing the Cimmerians to make contact with the Asgard and save the planet from the forces of Heru'ur. (SG1: "Thor's Chariot")

An ascended Daniel watches Bra'tac and Rya'c captured

Coupled together with his information of ancient societies Daniel's knowledge is expanded with access to other worlds and cultures based on ancient Earth ones along with the amount of information he obtained while an ascended being. His knowledge has several times been mentioned as a very valuable asset. (SG1: "Children of the Gods", "Orpheus")

Languages

Daniel Jackson's linguistics expertise is exceptional, he can speak over 23 languages and was responsible for most of the knowledge the SGC has on the Goa'uld and Ancient languages. (SG1: "1969", "The Fifth Race")

  • In an alternate timeline accidently created by SG-1 travelling back in time to 3,000 BC to take a ZPM from Ra, Daniel Jackson taught English as a second language and was called by the Air Force when a tape from the original SG-1 was found in a tomb in Egypt. When the alternate SG-1 traveled to Chulak he was implanted with a Goa'uld spy and was subsequently killed by Teal'c. (SG1: "Moebius, Part 2")
  • In an alternate timeline created by Ba'al, Daniel was a reclusive archaeologist living in Egypt who had too been ridiculed for his theories about the pyramids. (Stargate: Continuum)
