Control crystals are pieces of crystal used in conjunction with technology to allow for greater control and function between components of technology as well as power regulation. They can also be used to store information and data, much more than traditional computer technology.

Uses
Ancients
The Ancients were among the first users of crystal technology, using this type of control circuitry for millions of years since before they left the Ori galaxy. Control crystals exists in most of their technology such as Dial Home Devices. Over the millenia their crystal tehnology evolved from large rough hexagonal-shaped crystals into smaller, clearer pieces with circuitry-like patterns on them. Different control crystals have different functions and some can only be used for specific function such as power regulation, DHD function, etc.
DHD's in the Milky Way make use of the older style larger crystals to control functions and storage of the dialing program, valid addresses and other pertinent data for function of the Stargate. The Pegasus DHD's use newer style slim crystals. The DHD on Atlantis has a specialized control crystal needed for 8 symbol addresses. (SG1: "The Torment of Tantalus", "48 Hours", "Avenger 2.0", ATL: "Home", "The Lost Boys", "The Hive", "Identity")
Ori
Like the Ancients, the Ori used control crystals for various functions such as the Supergate dialing program. The Tau'ri attempted to replace one of the Supergate's control crystals with their own to dial into the Ori galaxy to stop the Ori from being able to send soldiers and ships to the Milky Way.
The Ori also use control crystals as power sources in their technology such as their staff weapons. These crystals are compatible with some Ancient technology , most likely due to the shared technological ancestry of both these races. (SG1: "Camelot", "Line in the Sand")
Goa'uld
Control crystals are also used by the Goa'uld, also known as delmac in Goa'uld, these crystals share similar functions to Ancient ones - regulation of power, control of necessary functions and data storage. The Goa'uld use larger crystals usually inserted into trays in large quantities on their ships such as Tel'tak's and Ha'tak-class Motherships. Their crystals are usually color-coded to indicate function - blue is power regulation. (SG1: "Deadman Switch", "Enemies", "Resurrection")
Asgard
The Asgard make varying use of control crystals in some of their technology for control functions and data storage. The Asgard Computer core on board of the 304's make use of specialized control crystals for its functions. These crystals appear to have the ability to store information on either sides of these crystals. These crystals are inserted into a tray in the computer core. (Stargate: The Ark of Truth)
Tau'ri
Since the Tau'ri began reverse-engineering advanced technology, they have relied on control crystals for basic functions of these technologies. In 303s and 304s many control crystals are required for functionality such as power regulation and basic control. These crystals serve as a connection between Earth-technology and the alien technology integrated into the ship, if these crystals are removed or damaged, the technology will not function. Unlike Goa'uld control crystals Tau'ri versions are white or clear instead of being multi-colored. (SG1: "Prometheus", "Prometheus Unbound", "Flesh and Blood", ATL: "First Contact", "The Lost Tribe")
