The Alliance of Four Great Races was an ancient coalition of powerful races that existed in the Milky Way Galaxy many thousands of years ago.
History
The Alliance consisted of four races - the Ancients, the Asgard, the Nox and the Furlings and was built over many millenia. The races would meet to discuss, maintain relations and possibly share knowledge. They ensured galactic communication with an Elemental language, a kind of "universal language" comprised of representations of the elements that make up the universe. (SG1: "The Torment of Tantalus", "The Fifth Race")
The status of the Alliance was unknown following the end of the Ancient race. The Asgard at some point began to withdraw completely from the Milky Way, the Furlings appeared to have also died out and the Nox secluded themselves. When the Asgard decided to end their existence they proclaimed the Tau'ri as the Fifth race of the Alliance. (SG1: "The Nox", "Fair Game", "Paradise Lost", "Unending")
